Conservative estimates indicate that as many as 2 million Americans over the age of 65 have been injured, exploited or otherwise mistreated by the people whom they depend on for their care. Further data suggests that for every case reported, there are as many as 5 cases that go unreported meaning that the actual figures are probably much higher.
At GFS, we strive to ensure that our vulnerable elderly clients are protected and secure. In some instances, our clients come to us as victims of financial abuse. Our case managers initiate action to ensure that the instigators are prosecuted and the funds involved are restored to our client. Occasionally, clients have been physically abused and/or neglected. When the situation requires it, we will seek prosecution of the abusers. Regretfully, clients can become victims of their own family or of their caregivers which requires guardianship or conservatorship through the court system. GFS advocates for our elderly clients and works through the court system to ensure that this vulnerable population is protected.
